MORRILL - Arthur Raymond Steiner Sr., 88, died, Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, at his residence.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at the Morrill Methodist Church in Morrill with Pastor Rick Reisig officiating. Inurnment will be at the Mitchell Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow at the American Legion in Morrill.
There will be no visitation as per Art's wishes cremation has taken place.
Memorials may be made to the Morrill Volunteer Fire Department or the Morrill American Legion.
Art was born in Sioux County, north of Mitchell, to Ferdinand "Fred" and Elsie (Case) Steiner in their home on April 9, 1922. He received his early education at Plainview 44 School and Liberty High School. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1942 at Ft. Warren, Wyo. Art attended P-38 airplane mechanic school at Burbank, Calif., Inglewood, Calif. and Camp Kearns, Utah. From there he went overseas with the 5th Air Force Squadron and served in the Southwest Pacific.
While serving as crew chief of the P-38 in New Guinea, the Philippines, and Biak, he received five bronze stars, a good conduct medal and a Philippines Liberation Ribbon.
Art was honorably discharged from military service Oct. 20, 1945, and returned to Morrill, where he resided until his death. Art was proud to have served his country during WW II, and his family will always be grateful and proud of him for the sacrifices he made to allow us our free-dom.
Art married Donna Robinson on Nov. 24, 1945, in North Platte. They were married nine days short of 64 years. Art was employed by The Rustic Tavern, Village of Morrill as a Street Alley Superintendent, Jay Parker Hay Grinding and Jirdon Agri Chemicals, where he retired from at age 84. He was a member of the Morrill Methodist Church, VFW, American Legion Club, Last Man's Club and the 8th Photo Squadron Organization. He was a past member of The Morrill Volunteer Fire Department. Art and Donna always enjoyed their trips to Deadwood, which Art continued after Donna's death in November 2009.
Survivors include his daughters, Cindy (Gary) Larson of Scottsbluff, Sheila (Mike) Hort of Lyman; son, Arthur Jr. (Stephanie) of Morrill; grandchildren, Jason (Sarah) Cawthra of Bellevue, Wash., Lindsay (Joe) Wheat of Laramie, Wyo., Skyler (Christy) Cawthra of Ogden Dunes, Ind., Casie (Jeromy) Delgado of Scottsbluff and Sydney, Bailee and Jaiden Steiner of Morrill; great–grandchildren, Kellan and Amy Cawthra, Keon and Kaymbree Delgado and Ashlyn Wheat; sister, Myrtle Fogle and special neighbors Abel and Janie Romo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna; son, Douglas Ar-thur; grandson, Joey Cawthra; brother, Joe Steiner and sisters, Murial Krueger, Jessie Richendifer and Mildred Hron.
