Terreton Crash Probe Pushed, Rites

Special To The Post-Register)
RIGBY, Jan. 17 — Funeral services were scheduled for one of three killed in a headon traffic collision at Terreton Sunday night as officers continued their investigation Tuesday.

State Patrolman W. J. Teeter, Idaho Falls, who heads the investigation, said he sees little reason for an inquest as both of he drivers were killed. However, he plans to confer with Jefferson County Prosecuting Atty. Grant Young and Coroner Noman Hall, to determine if any further action should be taken.

Instantly killed in the jarring leadon collision were the drivers, Lanny Ziegler, 24, Salmon, and James Radford, 34, Rigby, and a passenger in the Radford car, Fred Massengale, 28, Lorenzo.

LONE SURVIVOR
The only survivor is Robert Smith, 24, North Fork, a passenger in the Ziegler car, who is listed fair at the Idaho Falls LDS Hospital from internal injuries and a broken leg.

Teeter reported investigation showed Ziegler was in the wrong lane of traffic when he pulled out to pass another vehicle and crashed headon with the approaching Radford car. Ziegler and Smith had attended a National Guard meeting at Rexburg and were returning westbound to their home. Radford and Massengale had been at Mud Lake and were returning eastbound home. The crash took place on Highway 28 in front of West Jefferson High School.

Funeral services for Mr. Radford will be conducted Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in Eckersell Memorial Chapel by Bishop Thyrald H. Finn of the Clark LDS Ward.

Interment will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home at Rdgby.

Mr. Radfoid was born March 14, 1932, at Ririe, son of Glen and Dorothy Monroe Radford. He attended the Rigby schools and was a member of the LDS Church. He marrled Lois Frisk October 15, 1952, at Rigby.

Mr. Radford served in the U.S. Navy and at the time of his discharge held the rank of AD-3. He was an aircraft engine apprentice from 1952 to 1955 while in the Navy. At the time of his death he was a mechanic at the Jefferson County Co Op.

Survivors are his widow; five children, all at home, Jeffrey, Robert, Debra, LaMarr and La Wana Radford; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Radford, of Clark; two brothers and one sister, Lynn Radford, Santa Ana, California.; Vardus Radford, El Cajon, California.; and Mrs. Frank (Ruth) Gibbons, Idaho Falls.
