Hester was just 14 years old when she married SAMUEL JASPER STARLING in 1866. Here are Leona Hudson Hitzing's notes on the family of Samuel and Hester Starling: They farmed in Clay County and sold railroad ties "SJ" cut. They had 11 children as follows: JULI ANN "Annie" Starling (married Elijah H. Carter and died of diabetes); WILLIAM ALLEN "Billy" Starling II (was a farmer and also drove a streetcar in Jacksonville); LEVI EZEKIEL Starling (never married); MARTIN STANLEY Starling (died of typhoid fever); ELIZABETH "Lizzie" Starling (married Stauder Austin and died of peritonitis); Her twin sister, EMMA LOUISE Starling (married Billy McEwen, died of a heart attack); NANCY (married a Perry, then Ephraim Gnann, died of cancer); IDA MOZELLE Starling (second husband was Charles George); JOHN ARDELL (married Darling Austin, then Carrie Bennett, then died of liver trouble); MARGARET EVELYN STARLING (Leona's mother, who married Clarence Martin Hudson); and RAIFORD THOMAS (married Eva May Griffis, played fiddle and banjo, and committed suicide). *1920 Census includes granddaughter Carrie Starling (1903-1966, #13529245)
