Son of Thomas Liddal Armitage and Constance Marion Twivy Armitage, of Goldthorpe, Yorkshire.
They were married in Barnsley, in 1917.

He died on 11th February 1944, on board Wellington Bomber X3215 from 21 Operational Training Unit, which took off from RAF Moreton-in-Marsh on a non-operational bullseye exercise. An engine cut out on take off and the aircraft crashed striking a large tree near Black Downs near Stretton-on-fosse. He was 23.
