|Birth: ||1786, Ireland|
In a book written by Josephine Minteer Dickinson, "The Minteers As I Have Known Them", refers to Rachel as "quite an unusual woman. She read Latin and Greek, having been educated in Philadelphia." After Thomas' death she is said to have travelled to Davenport, IA, to visit her sons John, Andrew (Mack) and Benjamine. Benjamine died before she arrived, and she died during her visit
Rachel married the farmer Thomas Stevens Larimer about 1804. They had 13 children they named: Robert Stevens, Elizabeth C, Jane, Margaret G, Rachel, Mary, Eleanor "Ellen", Agnes "Aggie", John, Andrew Macune, Joseph, Benjamin Arundel "Ben" and Thomas Larimer.
Thomas and Rachel are buried on their farm. So are his parents and some other family members. This was called the "Larimer Old Family Farm" in family records. Sometime after 1850 the burial site came to be used by other families and now a church resides by the burial grounds.
John and Elizabeth were buried on their farm. This was called the "Larimer Old Family Farm" in family records. But, sometime after 1850 the burial site came to be used by other families and now a church resides by the burial grounds.
***** Question/Issue *****
Is the Methodist Church Cemetery, Stahlstown, Westmoreland Co., PA the actual location of the Larimer Old Family Farm burial grounds? The actual location of the Larimer farm is still under review in Jan 2014.
The first burial in this (old farm) cemetery was John Larimer who died on 30 Sep 1818. He was buried on his 200 acre farm. Several family members were buried there during two generations.
In family records it is referred to as the "Larimer Old Family Farm Cemetery". At some time after 1850 the land came into general use for a church and other burials.
The location of the original family farm was aided by the Westmoreland County Historical Society after examining the historical tax records for the Larimer land owners that occupied this location.
