Born to the late Moses Murphy and Julia Holmes (Burton). Raised by her grandparents Newman and Frances Ann Green Murphy in Orange County, Virginia and later moved to Philadelphia, PA. Also raised by her step-father Lee Burton. There she met the late Jesse N. Edmonds and was married on July 27, 1939. From this union two sons were born, including Jesse Edmonds, Jr. She touched the hearts of everyone she met. She leaves to cherish her memories her two sons, two daughters-in-law; sisters: including, Anna L. Murphy, Pearl Murphy Byrd, Katherine M. Henderson, Lula E. Murphy Ellis, Vivian Mozella M. Williams and Murtis M. Jones; her sister, Mattie L. Murphy Tracy preceded her in death; three brothers: Moses Murphy, Jr., David R. Murphy, Sr., and Samuel W. Murphy, Sr.; six grandchildren; several aunts and uncles; a host of nieces and nephews; many cousins; other relatives and many friends. No one who has known her can say she was anything less than a virtuous woman.
