Glasco Sun, Cloud County, Kansas, July 19, 1907, page 2:
Nancy Bates was born in Herkimer county, New York, May 10th, 1825 where, during her young womanhood, she taught school. On March 30, 1847, she was married to Joseph Cool. After a few years they moved to Delaware county, Iowa, and in that new country Mrs. Cool was ever known as a helpful friend and neighbor, taking advantage of every opportunity to assist the sick and needy and to speak words of comfort to the sorrowing.
In 1876 the family removed from Iowa to Cloud County, Kansas. Here their true spirit of hospitality and neighborly kindness drew unto them a host of friends.
Their family consists of six daughters and one son, all of whom are here today except Emma Hosford, who died in Iowa about twenty years ago.
About 12 years ago, Mrs. Cool had a stroke that rendered her unable to longer give of her strength to help others, but her mind and heart were ever solicitous for the welfare of those about her. And she has had the loving care of a devoted family.
She died July 14th, 1907, aged 82 years, 2 months and 4 days. Her funeral was conducted at the residence of her son, Mr. Lew Cool, by Rev. J.T. Bates, of Glasco. Interment in the Glasco Cemetery.
