Malcolm Daniel Alarid,74, a resident of Fair Oaks CA passed away Friday October 13, 2006, surrounded by his loving family.

Born December 27, 1931 in Santa Fe New Mexico, Malcolm continued the 200-year-old lineage of Santa Fe Alarids.

On graduation from Santa Fe High School in 1950 he attended Chillicothe Business College in Missouri, then enlisted in the United States Navy serving as a yeoman on the USS Anderson during the Korean War. He retired with a medical discharge. He attended the University of California at Berkley on the GI bill and earned a Doctor of Optometry degree.

Following graduation he opened an optometry practice in Albuquerque NM and served as president of the New Mexico Optometry Association. He joined Kaiser Permanente Medical Group in Sacramento and Roseville in 1968, where he remained until retiring in 1994.

Hobbies included worldwide travel, complete with working in a kibbutz in Israel, music, theatre, and handicapping horse races. He was an avid fan of the UC California Bears, the 49ers and the S acramento Kings.

He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Marilyn L. Alarid, brother Bill Alarid, nieces and nephews who knew him as "Unca Munca" are Karen Rodriguez, Phillip Gilbreth, Christine Sheetz and David Alarid. His extended family includes Wanda, Steven, Jennifer, Kelley and Lee Paiz, and Scott, Matthew and Stacee Hackler. He is "Papa" (grandpa) to 2 year olds Malcolm and Maxwell. Malcolm had 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by parents Jacobo Justus Alarid and Retha Daniel Alarid, sister Marion Gilbreth, wife Joy Alarid, and niece Elaine Kahn.

He was a strong and gentle man who touched many lives and will be missed.

Memorial services were held October 23, 2006 at ST. MEL'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 4745 Pennsylvania Avenue (corner Sunrise and Sunset Avenues), Fair Oaks CA.

Interment at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM.
