"Lon" was the youngest child of Alonzo and Katie Jenkins Snoots.
Lon was musically talented. In 1926, he won first prize doing a clog dance at the Amateur Night at the Frederick City Opera House. Later, during the 1930s, he played banjo in a Brunswick band called The Dixie Serenaders. His brother John was also in the band. Lon's musical talents were inherited by some of his children. His son Donald played with musicians such as Patsy Cline, Roy Clark and Jimmy Dean.
He spent a lot of time living with his brother (my great-grandfather)Arthur in a cabin on the Potomac River in Lander. The cabin stood up on stilts and burned down in 1964. They were both married, but neither were much for settling down. Arthur's wife Pearl would come by from time to time to bring them money and the brothers would walk to Point of Rocks to buy beer! Lon was a carpenter.
He was survived by his wife, the former Hilda Tregoning, sons Donald, Robert and James, daughter Londa Frye, 8 grandchildren, brother Arthur, and sisters Lettie Wetzel and Minnie Caniford.
In 2007-2008 I was unable to find his stone. I was always able to find it during my many visits over the years. I have no idea where it went.
In September 2010 I was informed by another family member that the stone was buried to make it easier to cut the grass!
