Taken as a POW April of 1942 in the Philippines and survived the Bataan Death March to Cabanatuan Prison Camp in the Philippines. On October 24, 1944 enroute from Formosa to the Japanese mainland aboard the ship, Arisan Maru, he and 1,800 POW's were killed when they were torpedoed by a US Navy submarine. He also has a Memorial marker at Assumption Cemetery in Florian, MN.
