Jack was the fifth child born to Henry Forney Watson and Neva Pearl Cross Watson.

His paternal grandparents were:
Pinkney Barto Watson and Martha Varina Whiteside.

His maternal grandparents were:
Samuel Lafayette Cross and Sarah Dovie Houck.

On 6 Apr 1942 he married Miss Bezzie Irene Adams (1921-2008). They had one son Ronnie.

On 25 Nov 1940, while he was attending the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa he entered into the US Army.

Jack proudly served with the 127th Infantry, 32 Division.

In the fall of 1944, Jack was promoted to the rank of Captain.

He was awarded a Bronze Star for his meritorious service and heroism in the battle that took place in Leyete Philippines between 15 Nov 1944 and 2 Jan 1945.

A short month later, on the 27th of Feb 1945, Jack lost his life during the battle of Luzon.

In May 1945, President Harry S Truman posthumously awarded Jack the Purple Heart for "sacrificing his life in the defense of his country".

"Capt. Jack Watson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Forney Watson of Choccolocco and husband of Mrs. Jack Watson of Tuscaloosa, died of wounds received on Luzon February 27. Captain Watson has been in the service five years and spent 28 months of it overseas, in action at New Guinea and the Philippines.

A Few days prior to his death Captain Watson had been awarded the Bronze Star for heroism".
