Thomas Haywood Ragsdale was the son of Charles B. "Charlie" Ragsdale and Jessie Threadgill. He attended high school in Kilgore, Texas, and after graduation enrolled in the University of Texas. He finished his education when he obtained a law degree from Cumberland University, Lebanon, Tennessee.
On 3/15/1941 Thomas enlisted as an Aviation Cadet in the United States Naval Reserve and underwent basic training at Jacksonville, Florida. He then received Navy pilot training and was assigned to VP-11 Squadron and shipped out for the South Pacific on 4/29/1944. On 8/13/1944 while on a rescue mission flying a PBY aircraft, Thomas' plane and crew were lost. They were listed as Missing in Action (MIA) until 2/5/1946 when they were declared dead. His body was never found and it is believed his plane crashed at sea or was shot down by enemy aircraft.
Thomas was married at the time of his death to Lady Helen Ragsdale. No further information is available on her or their marriage location at this time.
