John, who resided at 605 South Harrison Street, Wilmington, Delaware, served as a Corporal with a Anti-Tank Company, 382nd Regiment, 96th Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He enlisted in the Army on December 18, 1942 in Camden, New Jersey.

He was "Killed In Action" on Leyte in the Philippine Islands during the war.

He had served the Army for one year and ten months at the time of his death and was decorated with a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
