He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on December 11, 1941 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Stock clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

Raymond was declared "Missing In Action" during the war and was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
