He enlisted in the Army on September 23, 1943 in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of miscellaneous products and also as Single, without dependents.


B-25J #43-36191 was shot down by a Japanese Destroyer and crashed in Phan Rang Bay of the China Coast during the war. The entire crew was lost in this crash.


Roy was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash.


He was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross" and the Purple Heart.
