Martin worked on the farm with his Dad until he was drafted.

Martin was stationed at Camp Mackall in Hoffman, North Carolina.

He served in the United States Air Corp 11th Airborn-188th Glider Infantry Division-Private First Class-United States Army. He served under General Douglas McArthur in the Pacific.

While serving our country in World War Two, Martin Jacob Herman was shot down by sniper fire on a scouting mission on the Batangas Luzon Philippine Islands.
