Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until October 18, 1944.

Son of Harry Berman who resided in Brooklyn, New York.

Robert served as a Technical Sergeant & Radio Operator on B-24D "Sweepy-Time Gal" #42-40622, 373rd Bomber Squadron, 308th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Kings County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on August 3, 1942 at Fort Jay, Governor's Island, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a payroll clerk and also as Single, with dependents.

B-24D #42-40622, while on a mission to locate and attack shipping off Hong Kong, they were attacked and damaged by Japanese Zeros and crashed into the Pearl River during the war.

Robert was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross", Air Medal, and the Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster.

It is unknown why Robert was not declared "Missing" until 6 months after the rest of the crew.
