He resided in Washington County, Maryland prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on July 29, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was noted as being employed as a Farm Hand and also as Single, with dependents.

Nelson was "Killed In Action" during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart.

Nelson also has a "Cenotaph" in the Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown, Maryland.
