He resided in Baltimore, Maryland prior to the war. He graduated from Baltimore City College in June, 1943, and attended Loyola College for a short time before being called into the Army Specialized Training Program.

He enlisted in the Army on December 20, 1943 at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland. He was noted as being Single, without dependents.

William went overseas with the 100th Division In October, 1944.

William was declared " Missing In Action " during the war and was awarded the " Bronze Star with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster " and the Purple Heart.
