During World War II, he served as a navigator for the U.S. Army Air Forces, 847th Bomber Squadron, 490th Bomber Group. He was killed in action while flying over Germany.

Awards: Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Purple Heart
