Lewis served as a Private First Class, 313th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Rutland County, Vermont prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on November 16, 1942 in Rutland, Vermont. He was noted as being employed as a Dairy Farm Hand and also as Separated, with dependents.

Lewis was "Killed In Action" in France during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart.
