Memorial services will be held for Pfc. Willard Earl Dunn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Dunn, of Tiona, Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Tiona Methodist church with Rev. Lloyd V. Mohnkern officiating.
Pfc. Willard Earl Dunn, was born in Sheffield, October 27, 1919. He attended the grade school and two years at the Warren High School, after moving to Tiona.
Pfc. Dunn enlisted in the army, July 31, 1939, and was stationed at Ft. Slocum, N.Y., until August 29, 1939, from there to Ft. Hancock, N.Y., and later sailing for the Panama Canal Zone, arriving about October 1, 1939, receiving his basic training in the Canal Zone at Ft. Clayton, where he was stationed until June 1, 1940, when he volunteered for duty with the guard and Service Co. at Corozal, C.Z. In July 1941 he volunteered for duty on a military mission to South America, returning in October to be sent back to the States, and arriving at Ft. Hamilton, N.Y., and later sent to Fort Devens, Mass., also receiving training at Camp Blandin, Fla., and Ft., Benning, Ga. Arrived in England July, 1942, taking part on the invasion of Africa and Sicily. Later returning to England. Sgt Dunn gave up his rating, to be transferred to Co. F. so as to be with the boys he served with in the Panama Canal Zone. He lost his life in the Invasion of Normandy, June 6, 1944.
Surviving are his parents, and the following brothers and sisters, Robert serving overseas, C. John Dunn of Warren, Audrey, Annabelle, and Etta Mae at home.
His last furlough at home was at Christmas time in 1941. Friends are invited to attend the service.
