He enlisted in the Maryland National Guard on February 3, 1941, prior to the war, in Baltimore, Maryland. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Plumber and also as Single, without dependents.

Carmel "Died Of Wounds" received in action during the war and was awarded the "Bronze Star" and the Purple Heart.
