Times were extremely hard during this time, and by 1910 the family was living in Freestone county, Texas. Her mother, Eleanor, was not with the family, but David Crockett and four of his children were living in Freestone, county, Texas. Minnie Mae her older sister had died in 1909 in Bell County, Texas. In 1913, her three younger siblings, Ethel, Elmer, and David Eugene, were found drowned in a stock tank on land leased from Henry Phillip Spears.
Irene, the sole surviving child, married Henry Phillips Spears at the age of 16. He was twenty years her senior.
Henry and Irene had ten children: Cecil H, William David, Eleanor Irene, Ethel Mae, George E, Raymond Eugene, John Calvin, James Theodore, Shirley E and Dorothy L.
They lived in Fort Worth, prior to settling in Mansfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Henry, in 1961; her daughter, Ethel, in 1928; and her son, John Calvin 1964. She was survived by her children: Cecil, William, Eleanor, George, Raymond, J. T., Shirley and Dorothy; and many grandchildren and great children.
She was laid to rest in the Mansfield Cemetery next to her husband and close to her son, John Calvin.
