Son of Phillip (Felipe) Alarid who resided in Clayton, New Mexico.

John served as a Staff Sergeant & Tail Gunner on B-24J #44-10599, 344th Bomber Squadron, 98th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Union County, New Mexico prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on December 30, 1943 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

B-24J #44-10599 took off from Lecce, Italy on a bombing mission over Komárom, Hungary. For an unknown reason they came up through the formation and hit the wing tip of another B-24 causing them to crash in the Adriatic Sea during the war. The other B-24 is believed to have survived the collision.

John was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
