During the Second World War Hayes Ogden served with the 121st Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class. He was killed in action on the 12th of August 1944 in France.
Private First Class Ogden was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart Medal.
Survivors, besides his parents, were three brothers, William, Grifith Jr. and Harvey Ogden, and four sisters, Miss Fay Ogden, Miss Cora Ogden, Mrs. Flora Goodall and Mrs. Fredonia Bockover, Indianapolis.
