Edward L. Smith, 58, of Gridley died Wednesday at the Veterans Hospital in Martinez where he had been a patient for 3 weeks. A native of Worth Township, Iowa, born October 22, 1919, he had resided in Gridley for the past 25 years, making his home at 656 Jackson Street. He had been a real estate salesman in recent years. He was a veteran of World War II and had served in the U.S. Army. He was survived by his wife Marjorie, of Gridley; a son, Edward Michael of Santa Clara; 3 daughters, Carol Oakley and Gloria Anderson, both of Citrus Heights, and Shirley Alley of Gridley; 2 brothers and a sister, all residing in Iowa; and 3 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Gridley-Biggs Cemetery.
