Son of William Thain Allan (of Aberdeen, Scotland) and Florence Louise Horswell Allan (of Massachusetts);

Grandson of John Ogilvie Allan and Helen Thain Allan (both of Aberdeen, Scotland) and of William H. Horswell and Frances Tabour Horswell (both of Massachusetts).

In 1942, Robert Allan enlisted in the US Air Force to do his part for our Country in World War II..... he had graduated from College and was inducted as a 2nd Lieutenant. Robert was later promoted to First Lieutenant and was a member of the 94th Fighter Squadron, 1st Fighter Group, 12th Air Force.
He piloted a "Lockheed P-38 Lightning" Fighter Aircraft.

His Squadron was sent to Italy as part of "Operation Husky", the code name for The Allied Invasion of Sicily.

At the last part of the Operation, Robert and 5 other fellow pilots, in 5 of the group's P-38's, were escorting B-26's to Caserta... they were 15 miles north of Naples, Italy when they were fired on......all were lost.

Flight Officer Lt. Robert F. Allan was officially listed as "KILLED IN ACTION".

He was posthumously awarded the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and a Purple Heart.... he is buried in the American Military Cemetery in Italy along with thousands of others who gave their lives for our Country and did not make it home to be buried near their families.

We must never forget..... this findagrave website allows us the opportunity to honor that sacrifice. THANK YOU.
