Second Lieutenant Richard C. Van Munster arrived with his family in the United States of America on 1 May 1921.

He married Theresa Ann Netzkar in 31 December 1940. His son Richard, who was born in March 1945, and never knew his father, became eventually also a commercial fisherman.

Second Lieutenant Richard C. Van Munster enlisted on 29 August 1942 at Morrison Field West (now Palm Beach International Airport), Palm Beach, Florida. His servicenumber at that moment 14107287.

After the crash in The English Channel, in bad weather conditions, Second Lieutenant Richard Van Munster was seen, injured, sitting on the wing of the plane, but was not seen again.

His brother Walter Van Munster, born in 1914, also served in World War II. He enlisted on 29 November 1944 at Camp Blanding, Florida. He returned to the U.S.
