Fred served as a Second Lieutenant & Navigator on B-24H "Dark Rhapsody" #41-29466, 785th Bomber Squadron, 466th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Bristol County, Massachusetts prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on April 17, 1942 in Providence, Rhode Island. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Retail manager and also as Single, without dependents.

Fred was "Killed In Action" when his B-24H collided with B-24H "Shoo Shoo Baby" #42-52587 while on a mission to bomb the Achmer airfield in Germany and crashed near Lake Belterwijde, Holland (Netherlands) during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
