He acquired his education at Hebron Acadamey, and later taught school in Livermore but later left for a business in Boston.
Left the Nelson Farm in Livermore and went to Boston around 1894. First worked as a Meat Cutter, in Rand's Grocery Store in Roslindale, and met his bride who was the Bookeeper. Baptised Methodist in Rosingdale Church as a Methodist, Taught school in Livermore before moving to Boston to make his fortune. This can be found in the book the History of Livermore and its Pioneers, by Ira Thompson, Printed by Lewiston Journal Printshop in 1928.
