Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, Harold was not officially declared by the military as being dead until February 11, 1945, 1 year and 1 day after he went missing as was the custom.

Harold served as a First Lieutenant & Pilot on B-17G #42-31566, 339th Bomber Squadron, 96th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Essex County, Massachusetts prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on May 1, 1942 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Machinist's apprentice and also as Married.

Harold was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-17 was hit by German Flak and crashed into the North Sea during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
