He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on September 10, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was noted as being employed as a Filling Station Attendant and also as Single, without dependents.

B-17 #42-30289 took off on a bombing mission and were attacked and shot down by German Aircraft and crashed near Hvidkilde, East of Svendborg, Denmark.

Oliver was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
