John served as a Coxswain, SS Meriweather Lewis, U.S. Navy during World War II.
He resided in Cumberland, Allegany County, Maryland prior to the war.
He was declared "Missing In Action" when the Meriweather was sunk by German U-Boat U-634 in the North Atlantic during the war.
Note: Entered the service from Maryland.
