Sergent Martin was killed in fatal b24 crash landing at Hethel. Pilot Rodenberg may have been returning from Libya although most of the group had returned days and weeks earlier. I Can find no combat missions for that date in 1943.
Sgt Martin was a recipient of the Distinguished flying cross for his participation in "Operation Tidal Wave" August 1 1943, one of the most daring raids of WW2. With pilot Rodenberg coming in at tree top level the Sky Scorpions destroy the Steaua Romana oil refinery. The refinery does not produce oil for six months.
