Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, Marlin was not officially declared by the military as being dead until February 11, 1945, 1 year and 1 day after he went missing as was the custom.

Marlin served as a Staff Sergeant & Left Waist Gunner on B-17G #42-31566, 339th Bomber Squadron, 96th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Michigan prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on April 29, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Machinist and also as Single, without dependents.

Marlin was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-17 was hit by German Flak and crashed into the North Sea during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
