Married Mary Wheelwright Dec. 18, 1774, who was the widow of Rev. James Greaton. Dr. Prime was a diligent student, mastered several languages in all of which he could converse and write with equal ease. Driven from his home he indulged his pen with caustic severity upon the enemies of his country and did much to raise the hopes and stimulate the exertions of his fellow citizens. He was a physician, a writer in the "American Whig", a public speaker, author of many patriotic songs and poems. He belonged to the Sons of Liberty and assisted in the destruction of the statue of King George III, which made him a special object of the enemy's hatred and was compelled to flee for his life and live in exile in Conn. for 7 years. He graduated from Princeton in 1751. In 1760 received honorary degree of A.M. from Yale College. In 1762 he studied medicine in Edinburgh and London. Entered Leyden Univ. from which he received the Medical Doctor degree in 1764. After traveling to Moscow he returned and practiced medicine in New York City, until the enemy took possession and he was driven into exile.(Refugees from L.I. to Conn.)
Their children: Ebenezer, Liberty, Ann Wheelwright, Mary Wood, Nathaniel Scudder Prime.
