Winooski High School (Winooski, Vermont) class of 1940. Peter played on Winooski High School's 6-man football team, and in April, 1939, he was the recipient of a prize given to the boy who had "...made the most progress in the last marking period.". He was also a member of the Boy Scouts.
On January 24, 1942 Peter enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps in Rutland, Vermont. He served as a Corporal in the United States Army Air Force as a gunner on a B-24. He and the rest of the crew were declared "Missing In Action" when their B-24, while on a mission with 4 other B-24s, was attacked by 15 to 20 German Messerschmitt 109s. His B-24 was seen on fire before it crashed into the Mediterranean Sea about 25 miles north of Mersa Matruh, Egypt.
Peter's parents were notified by the War Department that he was "Missing in action in the Far East " in August, 1942. His parents last message from him was that he and his crew were participating in Africa during the battle of Libya. Peter was officially declared dead July 9, 1943.
He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
