Warren served as a Sergeant & Radio Operator on B-29 "Long Winded" #42-63509, 99th Bomber Squadron, 9th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in San Francisco County, California prior to the war.

Waren was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-29 was shot down by ground anti-aircraft fire over the Straits of Shimonoseki, Japan, while on a mine-sowing operation.

8 crew members were MIA/KIA, and 3 survived and were rescued by a Navy submarine.
