Son of Edward L. Macan, Sr. who resided in Cleveland, Ohio.

Edward served as a Staff Sergeant and Tail Gunner on a B-29 #42-24742, 874th Bomber Squadron, 498th Bomber Group, Very Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Cuyahoga County, Ohio prior to the War.

He enlisted in the Army on July 25, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the production of bakery products and also as single, without dependents.

Edward was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-29 bomber failed to return from a mission over Kyushu Island.

He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster.
