Son of Mrs. Jane D. McDiarmid who resided in Aspinwall, Pennsylvania.

He enlisted in the Army on January 2, 1943 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

Alfred was a Passenger on on C-47A #42-23870, 54th Troop Carrier Squadron, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

C-47A #42-23870 took off from Elmendorf Field and the plane went missing and apparently crashed approximately 30 miles from Fort Glenn, on the Aleutian Islands of Alaska.

Alfred was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.
