Biography
Age 70, Lawton - Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Monday, in Centenary United Methodist Church with the Rev. Phil Jones and Dr. Norma Quinn officiating.
LTC Ward passed away Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010, in his home surrounded by his family.
LTC Ward will be buried with full military honors on Monday, August 9th, at 1pm at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
He was born December 22, 1939, in Ramona, OK, to Willis H. Ward and Vivian V. Adcock. He was a 1958 graduate of Bartlesville College High, Bartlesville, OK.
Dennis was an All-American tackle at University of Oklahoma playing for Bud Wilkinson from 1958 - 1963 before being drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles, and subsequently traded to the Houston Oilers in 1964. Dennis then returned to OU to complete his Master Of Business Administration Degree.
He received his regular commission in the US Army at OU beginning a 27 year career that included assignments at Ft. Bliss, Ft. Benning, Ft. Leavenworth, Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Germany, Vietnam, Korea and finishing as the Commander of Headquarters Command at Ft. Sill, OK. Dennis was a highly decorated Officer, receiving awards such as Bronze Star Metal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with Second Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with One Silver Service Star, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with Numeral Two, Parachutist, Airborne, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a member of the Order of Saint Barbara.
Dennis married Sandra Kay Caswell on December 27, 1963, in Bartlesville, OK. He was a member, and the Head of Ushers at Centenary United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Varsity "O" Club, and The Touchdown Club at The University of Oklahoma. He was an avid Genealogist, and passionate for his work as a career specialist for the Great Plains Technology Center at Fort Sill's Harry S. Truman Education Center.
He is survived by his wife, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Heidi and Joel Ramos, Mililani, HI; and a son Brett L. Ward, CFI, Houston, TX; and 2 grandchildren, Drew Roderick Ward, Houston, TX and Ava Sanlin Ramos, Mililani, HI; and a brother, Karl W. Ward, Ochelata, OK.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Curt M. Ward; and his father-in-law Ernest W. Caswell.

A viewing for family and friends will be from 6-8pm, Sunday the 8th, at the funeral home.
