Robert B. "Bob" Lattimer, 84, Lincoln, died Saturday (7/23/05). Born to Viola and Wallace Lattimer, Lyons, Kan. (3/19/21), where he grew up on the family farm. Bob joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1940. He was in Special Weapons Group, Sixth Defense Battalion, FMF, participating in the Battle of Midway against Japanese Naval Forces on Dec. 7, 1941. Served, Marshall and Marianas Islands, Okinawa, Tinien, Roi-Namur and Kwajalein Atoll. Bob also served in Korea, 1950-1951. Directed artillery fire; walked out of the Chosin Reservoir and was on the Inchon landing. Served as a top recruiter in Iowa and was stationed in San Diego, Oceanside, Twenty-Nine Palms, California, and Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. After a 20-year career, retired as Master Sergeant E-8. He always will be remembered for his dedication to the U.S. Marine Corps. Bob joined the Lincoln Police Department in 1961. He was known as "Huck," "Topper," "Latt" or "Sarge" and was communications desk sergeant. He attained the rank of lieutenant and retired in 1976. Bob served as security chief at National Bank of Commerce for 10 years. While stationed as a recruiter in Lincoln, Bob met Joyce Worster. They were married Feb. 27, 1949, raised three sons and celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this year. Bob loved nothing more than having family together, enjoying Joyce's German cooking and playing canasta with "The Gang." He was known for his great sense of humor, booming voice and generous bear hugs. He always will be remembered for his large gardens, especially the tomatoes he loved to give to family and friends.

Survivors: wife, Joyce; son, daughter-in-law, Bob and Julie, Lincoln; sons, Don and Tim, Lincoln; grandchildren, Bobby David, Paul, Elizabeth, Nick, Brooke, Josh, Katelyn, T. J., Jeremy; great-grandchildren, K'Leigh, Olivia, Andrew, Bobby Jr.; sisters, Eulela, Volcano, Hawaii, Faye, Sterling, Kan., Marian, Hutchinson, Kan.; brothers, sisters-in-law, Jim and Deb, Newton, Kan., Max and Betty, Hutchinson, Kan.; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, one sister and two brothers.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Butherus, Maser & Love, 4040 A St. The Rev. Herbert Wenz. Burial, Wyuka Cemetary. Visitation: 5-9 p.m. today, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday, funeral home.
