Her given name was Anna Sophie Wilhelmine Caroline Kruse.
Mrs. Caroline Hartman, nee Kruse, was born Oct. 4, 1874, in Schaumburg township; was baptized and confirmed at the Rodenburg Lutheran church by Rev Grupe. On June 7, 1894, she was united in marriage to Mr. Fred Hartmann by Rev. Heine, Seven children were of this union, one daughter, Minnie, passed away in 1932 at the age of 27 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Hartmann have made their home at their present location the entire time of their marriage. Mrs. Hartmann passed away Sunday morning, July 12, 1936, at 10 35 a. m., at her home at the age of 61 years, 9 months and 8 days.
She leaves to mourn her departure her loving husband, Mr. Fred Hartman, and six living children, Mrs. Meta Greve at home; Mi Henry Hartmann of Schaumburg township; Mr. Albert Hartmann at home; Mrs. Hilda Meyer of Rodenburg; Mr Arthur Hartmann of Schaumburg township; Mr. Emil Hartmann at home; two daughters-in- law, one son-m-law; 12 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Becker of Genoa, III.; Mrs. Emma Kretschmer of Elgin; and one brother, Mr. William Kruse of Kansas City, Mo; eight brothers-in-law; six sisters-in-law.
Services were held Wednesday afternoon, July 15, 1938, at 2:00 p. m. at the Rodenburg Lutheran church, Rev. Oetjen officiating, Mr. Meinke rendering the organ numbers; funeral arrangements by Dzur and Karstans; interment at Lake Street cemetery.
