Birth: Jan. 31, 1817
Perrysville (Ashland County)
Ashland County
Ohio, USA
Death: Jan. 23, 1868
Johnson County
Missouri, USA

Allen Oliver Tannehill Sr. was the son of Charles Tannehill and Mary Oliver of Ashland Co., Ohio. Mary's father was Allen Oliver, thus the name Allen Oliver Tannehill. His grandfather, Allen Oliver was a patriot soldier of the American Revolution.

Allen O. Tannehill was a private in the civil war on the Union side, Regiment Name 7 Missouri S.M. Cav, Company A. He enlisted Jan. 24, 1862 at Sedalia, MO, and was discharged for disabity Jan. 9, 1863 in Elk Horn, Arkansas.

Sometimes his middle initital is C. not O. In the 1850 and 1860 census he is clearly Allen C. Tannehill (not Allen O.). The Johnson Co., Missouri archives have listed a will of Allen C. Tannehill in will book D 1852-1860. I haven't checked that yet. The Quick Cemetery online records have Allen O. Tannehill 50 yrs 11 mo. 23 days. I am sure that the cemetery record is this man who was the brother of Elizabeth Eleanor (Betsy Ellen) Tannehill Quick (my GG grandmother) who died in 1862 and is buried in the same Quick cemetery. I am sure that Allen C. and Allen O.Tannehill are the same person.

According to the Quick Cemetery records, his headstone says "aged 50 yrs 11 mo. 23 days". Calculating from a hard birthdate that the Tannehill researchers have, is where the death date comes from.

He married Susan Miller, 20 March 1845 in Richland Co. Ohio. Susan was last found living in Linn Co. Kansas with son Thomas B. Tannehill and wife in 1920. She was 89 at the time.

They had the following children.
1. Mary Elizabeth Tannehill 1845 - about 1880
2. Allen Oliver Tannehill Jr. 1847 - after 1930
3. Charles L. Tannehill 1845 - between 1910-1920
4. Thomas Benton Tannehill 1850 - after 1925
5. Jane Tannehill about 1853 - after 1870
6. James Q. Tannehill 1855 - 1942
7. Clark F. Tannehill 1856 - 1944
8. Frances A. Tannehill 1860 - 1910
9. Melzar Tannehill 1861 - 1880

Allen Oliver Tannehill Sr. was my 2nd great grand uncle... Tom M. Short II
