Married, Jan. 28, 1838, by Rev. John Wathen at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Their witnesses were Thomas Higdon and Catherine Higdon.

MRS. ELIZA MATTINGLY DEAD - LEAVES 125 CHILDREN, GRANDCHILDREN AND GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN - Mrs. Eliza J. Mattingly, relict of the late B. I. Mattingly, died Friday of senility at the home of her son, R. T. Mattingly, about two miles east of this city, at the age of eight-eight. Mrs. Mattingly had been in failing health about a year. Mrs. Mattingly was born in Marion County, where she spent most of her girlhood days, and was a schoolmate of J. Proctor Knott, who became governor of Kentucky. At the age of about sixteen she moved with her father, Ned Monarch, to Daviess County, where she remained until married to B. I. Mattingly, of this county. Of the twelve children born to this union seven survive. Sixty-six grandchildren and fifty-two great-grandchildren, also are living, ten or fifteen being dead. The children are: J. C. Mattingly and Mrs. Rosie Whitehouse, of this city; R. C. and F. M. Mattingly, of Balltown; R. T. Mattingly, living two miles east of this city; Chas. Mattingly, of Hardinsburg; and Mrs. Mary J. Burdett, living ten miles south of this city. Mrs. Mattingly was an own cousin of the Monarchs of Owensboro. Born and reared a devout Catholic, Mrs. Mattingly led an exemplary life and was beloved by all who became acquainted with her. The funeral was held Sunday morning and the interment was at St. Mary's cemetery at Mattingly, where Mr. and Mrs. Mattingly at one time resided.
