Criminal. He was the father of 1950s Civil Rights martyr Emmett Till.
While serving in the United States Army in Italy during World War II, he was tried, convicted and executed for the rape of two women and the murder of another.
His wife, Mamie, learned about the circumstances of her husband's execution only after her son was murdered and the killers were on the eve of being tried.
Louis Till is interred in a section of the cemetery set aside for servicemen who were executed for crimes of murder and rape.
