|Death: ||Apr. 15, 1889|
Hannah was the child of Joseph and Nancy (Sawtell) Perkins.
There are discrepancies concerning her birth year. She was enumerated with her parents in 1850 as a 14-year-old which calculates a birth year of either 1835 or 1836. The death certificate listed her age as 45, estimating the birth year as 1843 or 1844.
Hannah Battersby Dead.
Philadelphia, April 15.--Mrs. Hannah Battersby, said to be the largest woman in the world, died to-night at her home in Frankford, a suburb of this city. She had been ailing for several weeks. Mrs. Battersby was born in Vermont in 1842 and was of normal size until her twelfth year. Then she began to develop, and at 17 years of age she weighed 500 pounds. She married John Battersby, who traveled with her, exhibiting himself "as the greatest living skeleton." Mrs. Battersby at the time of her marriage weighed 688 punds, and of late years her managers have claimed that she weighed 800 pounds.
