Marshall Fitzhugh Bonnett, his brother David and their brother-in-law Zach Taylor drove an ox team to California in 1848 to dig for gold. When Marshall and David were ready to return to Iowa, Zach could not be found and was thought to have been killed by Indians. They were gone around 10 years. Three of those years Marshall lived with the Indians. he learned how to speak the Indian language and sing many of their songs. Don't know what tribe or location. When Marshall and David returned home they married the Ronk sisters. David returned to California later with his wife and children where they made their home.
