R. Don Jorns, age 85, of Lady Lake (The Villages), FL; formerly from Stone Mountain, GA entered into rest on Thursday, June 10, 2010. He is survived by his loving wife of over 61 years, Margaret Jorns; son & daughter-in-law, Bob & Julia Jorns of Jasper, GA; daughter & son-in-law, Elizabeth & Warren Tarpley of Snellville, GA; 4 grandchildren, Michelle & Jay Wilson of Tampa, FL; Michael Jorns of Monticello, GA; Matthew Tarpley of Monroe, GA; Stephanie Tarpley of Dunwoody, GA; 3 great granddaughters; other relatives and a host of friends. Mr. Jorns was born on October 12, 1924 in Kaw City, Oklahoma to Lola Mae Ford Jorns and Elza Lee Jorns. He graduated from Tulsa Central High School and went on to graduate from Oklahoma A& M (now known as Oklahoma State University) in 1949 with a degree in Advertising & Marketing after serving his country. Before joining the US Army Air Corp he studied and had nearly completed a degree in Engineering at Oklahoma A & M. He reported on Dec. 11, 1942 to Shepard Field, Texas (Army Air Corp) and was transferred to the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where he taught courses that related to Aeronautics & Aeronautical Engineering. He entered pre-flight testing and training in San Antonio, TX where he qualified for pilot training. He graduated as an Army Air Corp Cadet on April 15, 1944. As a Flight Officer, he went to Fort Worth Army Air Field in Fort Worth, TX where he was trained as a B-24 Pilot. He then did training for the B-29 at Randolph Army Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX. He became a Commander for the B-29 airplane and was assigned to the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He was discharged as a Second Lieutenant on March 11, 1946 after World War II, and was Advertising & Marketing after serving his country. Mr. Jorns joined The Coca-Cola Company in 1950 where is worked in the Fountain Sales Department, Marketing Department and the Fanta Beverage Division. He retired as a member of the Fountain Sales Department after a 36 years career with The Coca-Cola Company. It was often said that he had Coke syrup running through his veins. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing and loved his family and many friends. He will be greatly missed by all. A Graveside Service Celebrating the Life of Don Jorns will be held Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 11:30 A.M. at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens, Snellville, GA with Military Honors. Rev. Jim Bowman will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Flowers are accepted, 6500 Sugarloaf Pkwy., Suite 260, Duluth, GA 30097.
